Powers: Adrian has the ability to control any insect or arachnid that he
has so far come across. He has yet to find a limit to this ability, but he hasn't
done any extensive testing, either. He doesn't know how it works except that when
he wants them to do something, they do it. It is possible that he has a low-level,
very specific telepathy that can only be detected by them, but he doesn't
speculate on it much.

So far he has not experienced a limit to the number of bugs he can control,
but he does have to be within sight of them to relay whatever commands he has. They
continue to obey those commands even after they leave his presence, no matter the
distance. He tends to get colder, more distant, when he spends a great deal of time
with only insects. He has to force himself to go out among peopleand socialize when
that happens. He doesn't tire from using his power, because it's a one-time thing. He
wills them to do something, and then his influence stops. The commands are then in
their 'brains' and they carry them out, regardless of whether or not Adrian is still
there.

His thinking processes are unusual enough that they may be affected by his power
without him realizing it. He is outwardly cold, almost stoic, but inwardly quite
chaotic. He's an observer, rarely taking part in society, but he also has a
deep-seated need to 'belong' in some kind of group. More often than not he has
no idea how to react to people. Rather than make the wrong choice and be
subjected to ridicule, he tends to avoid as many social situations as possible.

Flaws: Adrian has a definite lack of social skills. He would much rather
spend time with his insects. His unusual mindset could also be considered a flaw,
considering it impairs his ability to relate to others on a personal and
professional level.

He also has pale, easily burned skin, and spends most of his time indoors,
especially during the day. Physically, Adrian is far from impressive and not
very strong.

Background: Adrian was born in an economically depressed area of New Jersey.
His father had recently been incarcerated for assault, and his mother Lydia had to
raise Adrian and his sister alone. She had been disowned by her family when she
married her children's father, so there was no outside assistance for her to turn
to. Adrian's sister was three years older than he was, and in general tended to ignore
his existence, too busy with her numerous boyfriends to bother with a quiet younger
brother. His mother worked as a waitress during the day and did inventory and stocking
at a grocery store during the graveyard shift. Even with both jobs, the small family
rarely had enough money for basic necessities. They didn't have a phone, and their
electricity and water were shut off more than once because of unpaid bills.

Adrian was teased regularly at school due to his patched and mended hand-me-down
clothing and odd nature. He had few friends, most of the other children finding
him more than a little disturbing. His teachers called him cold and unfeeling but
could rarely find fault with his work. He was an intelligent child, and completed
his assigments on time and with clinical efficiency. Not exactly brilliant, but
he did well in all of his classes except for art and gym. He lacked creativity for
the former, and was too thin, almost frail, for the latter.

Adrian's mother died from a weakened heart when he was 12, and he and his sister
were placed in foster care. He hasn't seen his sister since then but doesn't
particularly mind that fact. He was placed in the home of an indifferent lower
middle-class couple who were mainly interested in the monthly stipend that came
with the boy. He was quiet and outwardly obedient, so by and large they let him
do his own thing. Adrian had always been more than a little interested in bugs
and insects. He began spending a good deal of his time in the basement, starting
several antfarms and various other insect colonies. The teasing at school
continued, but he ignored it as best he could, and took solace in the quite
world of his basement.

Adrian's power manifested slowly, so much so that he hardly even noticed it.
Finally he started to realize that his bugs always seemed to know what he
wanted, and more often than not they obliged him. The ants rearranged their maze
more to his liking, the tarantulas stopped fighting with one another, and so on.
Soon it reached the point that he could will the ants to walk in complex patters
on the table and they would. He took to keeping several insects with him at all
times just in case he needed them to scare someone who was bothering him. His
foster parents remained oblivious to Adrian's activities in the basement,
chalking his reclusiveness up to teenage hormones.

A peculiar incident occurred during Adrian's Sophomore year of highschool. A
swarm of bees randomly attacked a young man on the football field during
practice. He was stung forty-seven times, and was in the hospital for two weeks.

Adrien kept low on the radar, got good grades if not exceptional, and graduated
on time. He didn't go on to college, despite encouragment from his teachers to
do so. Instead he said goodbye to his foster parents, and in the old beat-up car
they gave him for graduation, he drove up to New York. He got a job working in a
temp-agency and now rents a small, basement apartment in Queens.
